  • Challenging Altitudes: Reaching a maximum altitude of 4,600 meters (15,092 feet) at Salkantay Pass, this route requires proper acclimatization, making it challenging for those not accustomed to high elevations.
  • Visit to Humantay Lagoon: One of the most notable stops is the visit to the stunning Humantay Lagoon, renowned for its turquoise waters and natural beauty surrounded by mountains.
  • Connection with Andean Culture: In addition to the natural scenery, the trek offers close encounters with local Quechua communities, allowing you to experience traditional lifestyles and participate in ongoing Andean ceremonies.
  • Machu Picchu as the Grand Finale: The final day culminates with your arrival at Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, rewarding your efforts with a majestic visit to this archaeological site.
  • Variable Climate: The weather along the trek can change dramatically, from cold and windy at high altitudes to warm and humid in lower areas, so being prepared for all conditions is essential.
  • Flexible Dates: Daily departures allow travelers to schedule the trek at any time between March and December, the recommended months to avoid the rainy season and enjoy clear skies.
  • Guided Adventure: While the trek can be done independently, most travelers opt for guided tours that include meals, camping equipment, and baggage transport, simplifying the journey.

Itinerary

DAY 1:

Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Salkantaypampa

We’ll pick you up at 5:00 AM from your hotel to begin your 7-day  Salcantay and Inca Trail adventure. Today is a relatively easy day, we consider as a training day and aclimatization day. Then we’ll head to Mollepata for a break to stretch our legs. From there, we’ll continue to Soraypampa, where we’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast before officially kicking off our 7-day Salkantay and Inca Trail adventure.

From Soraypampa, we’ll embark on a 2-hour trek to Humantay Lake, aiming to reach the lake around 12 PM when most day-trippers have left, allowing us to experience its beauty in peace. After soaking in the scenery, we’ll return to Soraypampa and continue our journey to our campsite at Salkantaypampa. There, we’ll have a satisfying lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure to relax and prepare for the following day’s adventures.

We’ll begin our second day with a warm cup of coca tea and a satisfying breakfast. Our journey starts with a brief stretch of flat terrain for about 10 minutes, before transitioning into a more challenging uphill climb. This section of the trail is steep and demanding, so we’ll take it at a comfortable pace since we’re only 4 hours from our destination. Along the way, you’ll be treated to views of the Humantay glacier to your left and the majestic Salkantay mountain right ahead.

Once we reach our campsite, Pampa Japonesa, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch before setting out on an afternoon exploration of Salkantay Lake, which usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. This will bring us close to the Salkantay glacier. After the lake adventure, we’ll head back to camp. Pampa Japonesa offers a perfect vantage point to appreciate the stunning beauty of the Soraypampa Valley, with plenty of opportunities to capture amazing photos of the Salkantay glacier. The sunset from here is nothing short of breathtaking. As the night settles in, we’ll gaze at the star-filled sky before enjoying a hearty dinner and settling down for a peaceful night’s rest.

Today’s views include snow-covered mountains, mountain lakes, and diverse wildlife such as viscachas and white-tailed deer.
