DAY 1:

Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa - Humantay - Lake - Soyrococha

Our adventure kicks off at 4:30 AM with a convenient pickup from your hotel in the Cusco area. Gather with your fellow travelers, along with your Guide and Cook, as we set off towards the village of Mollepata, situated at an altitude of 2,800 meters (9,186 feet). En route, we’ll pass through charming towns like Izcuchaca and Limatambo, arriving around 7:30 AM for a brief stop where you can enjoy an optional light breakfast.

From Mollepata, we’ll continue our journey to Soraypampa, located at an elevation of 3,910 meters (12,828 feet)., approximately an hour away. Soraypampa serves as the starting point for our trek along the legendary Salkantay Trail, also known as the Route of the Gods. Here, we’ll meet our support and logistics team, prepare our gear, and ready the pack animals for the trek ahead. By 9:00 AM, we’ll begin our hike towards Humantay Lake. we’ll embark on a 1 hour and 30 minutes hike to the dazzling Humantay Lake, perched at 4,210 meters (13,812 feet). This turquoise gem offers a perfect opportunity for breathtaking photographs and moments of tranquility. Returning to Soraypampa. Then we will continue hiking up to the Salkantaypampa (4150 m / 13615 ft) here you will have a nutritious Lunch, then two more hours hike to Soyrococha 4400 m 14436 ft), which is our first and coldest camping site.

Rise early at 6:30 AM to enjoy a nutritious breakfast, fueling up for the day’s challenge: conquering the Salkantay Pass. We’ll embark on a 2-kilometer trek over 1 un half hours, ascending to the highest point of the day at 4,630 meters (15,190 feet). From the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the high Andean valleys and the formidable snow-covered peaks of Salkantay, Humantay, Tucarhuay, and Pumasillo. Here, we’ll perform an Inca ceremony, offering prayers to the Apus for safe passage to our next destination.

Our descent begins with a winding and rocky path leading down to Wayraqmachay, located at 3,800 meters (12,467 feet), where we’ll take a break for lunch. After a short rest, we’ll continue our journey into the Amazonian rainforest, experiencing the dramatic shift from high mountain landscapes to the lush, mist-covered Cloud Forest. This transition allows us to witness the incredible biodiversity as we make our way to Colpapampa, our campsite for the night at 2,850 meters (9,350 feet).

Wake up in the vibrant and warm jungle environment of Colpapampa, also known as the “Cloud Forest Summit.” After breakfast at 6:00 AM, we’ll set out towards Playa Sahuayaco, immersing ourselves in the stunning High Andean Jungle. This region boasts radiant sunshine and dense vegetation, perfect for producing high-quality coffee. Along the way, you’ll encounter a variety of orchids, begonias, bromeliads, and medicinal plants used in traditional natural medicine.

Upon reaching Playa Sahuayaco at 2,064 meters (6,772 feet), we’ll enjoy a nutritious lunch and a short break before continuing our journey by bus to our campsite in Lucmabamba, situated at 2,017 meters (6,617 feet). In the afternoon, you have the option to visit the Cocalmayo Hot Springs in the village of Santa Teresa (1,700 meters / 5,577 feet), offering a relaxing soak after a day of trekking. Finally, we’ll proceed to our third campsite for the night, allowing you to rest and recharge for the exciting day ahead as we prepare to tackle the Inca Trail through the jungle, known as Llactapata.

Following our visit, we’ll begin our descent, trekking for over 2 hours down to Hidroeléctrica at 1,890 meters (6,200 feet). Here, we’ll enjoy a delightful lunch at a local restaurant before embarking on the final leg of our day. The trek continues along the train tracks, leading us to the picturesque village of Aguas Calientes at 2,020 meters (6,627 feet). This marks the end of our strenuous day, where you can relax and share a fulfilling dinner with your group, preparing for the most anticipated day of our adventure.

We begin our day early with breakfast before boarding a bus for the 30-minute uphill journey to Machu Picchu, located at 2,430 meters (7,972 feet). Upon arrival, we’ll go through the Machu Picchu entrance and commence a guided tour of the ancient citadel. Over the course of more than two hours, you’ll explore the intricate Inca architecture, including temples and key structures that highlight the ingenuity of the Inca civilization.
