Dive into the heart of the Amazon rainforest on this 4-day adventure. From the enchanting cloud forest to the serene rivers and vibrant wildlife, this journey promises unforgettable moments. Explore diverse ecosystems, witness unique species, and embrace the wonders of nature.
The adventure begins with a hotel pick-up between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. From Cusco, you’ll ascend into the highlands of Paucartambo, making a stop at the funeral towers of Ninamarca, an archaeological site steeped in history.
Continuing the journey, you’ll reach Ajanaco, standing at 11,800 feet (3,600 m), the gateway to the Manu Biosphere Reserve. From here, you’ll descend into the mystical cloud forest, home to spectacular orchids, heliconias, and ferns. With luck, you may witness the Cock of the Rock’s mating ritual and spot exotic birds like quetzals, trogons, and umbrella birds.
The area is also home to the elusive Spectacled Bear, and with some fortune, you might see one. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the village of Pilcopata and settle into the Manu Green Lodge, equipped with showers and toilets for a comfortable night’s stay.
After breakfast, the day starts with a jungle walk to explore the vibrant flora and fauna. You’ll pass by a coca plantation, spot colorful birds, and possibly encounter monkeys in their natural habitat.
The journey continues to Atalaya Port, where you’ll board a motorized boat and sail down the Alto Madre de Dios River. Along the way, you’ll hike a short trail and enjoy a refreshing dip in natural hot springs.
Arriving at the lodge in the afternoon, you’ll have lunch before venturing out to explore the jungle further. A highlight of the day is a serene ride on a balsa raft across Machuwasi Lake, a hotspot for wildlife like hoatzins, dwarf alligators, capybaras, and even tapirs.
After dinner, the day concludes with an exciting night walk to discover nocturnal species such as insects, frogs, and spiders. Overnight at the Paititi Lodge, featuring private bathrooms and showers.
The day begins early with a boat ride to the Parrot Clay Lick, where vibrant parrots and parakeets gather to feed on mineral-rich clay. It’s a mesmerizing display of colors and sounds.
After breakfast, the group will trek through the forest to the private Maravilla Lagoon, a secluded spot perfect for observing birds, monkeys, and alligators from a viewing platform.
Following lunch at the lodge, the afternoon and evening are dedicated to exploring jungle trails in search of more wildlife, including insects, frogs, and nocturnal creatures. Another restful night awaits at the Paititi Lodge.
After a delicious breakfast, the journey back begins with a boat ride to Atalaya, where a private bus will be waiting. Traveling through the cloud forest once more, you’ll bid farewell to the lush Amazon jungle and return to Cusco by around 7:00 p.m.
