Discover the incredible biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon in this immersive three-day experience. Perfect for nature lovers and adventurers, this tour will take you deep into the jungle, where you’ll witness exotic wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and unique ecosystems. Get ready to explore and connect with the wonders of the Amazon rainforest.
Your adventure begins with a warm reception at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus station. After a short transfer to the Monte Amazonico Lodge office, you’ll receive an overview of your itinerary. From there, a one-hour boat ride along the Madre de Dios River will take you to the lodge.
Upon arrival, enjoy a refreshing fruit juice made from local ingredients as the staff welcomes you to the lodge. Once you’ve settled into your room, lunch will be served.
In the afternoon, you’ll cross the river to visit Monkey Island, a vibrant habitat for several monkey species, including brown capuchins, squirrel monkeys, and saddleback tamarins. Watch as these playful creatures swing from tree to tree in their natural environment.
As night falls, the adventure continues with a caiman-spotting tour along the riverbanks. Armed with a flashlight, you’ll search for these nocturnal reptiles. If you’re lucky, you might also spot a capybara, the world’s largest rodent, weighing up to 60 kilos. Afterward, return to the lodge for dinner and a restful night.
Start your day with an early breakfast before heading out on a short boat ride to the entrance of Sandoval Lake, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. A 3-kilometer (2-mile) hike through the lush rainforest will bring you to the lake, a serene spot known as a piranha habitat.
Once there, your guide will take you on a rowing boat to explore the lake’s tranquil waters. Keep your eyes open for a variety of bird species, including hoatzins, cormorants, and herons, as well as monkeys and even giant river otters, which are endangered and can grow up to two meters long. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the largest caiman in the area, measuring over 4 meters.
Return to the lodge for a typical lunch, followed by some relaxation. As night falls, embark on a jungle night walk to uncover the secrets of the forest after dark. You’ll encounter insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat. Dinner and rest conclude the day.
Wake up early to experience the breathtaking Canopy Walkway, a series of suspended bridges 30 meters (98 feet) above the ground. This unique perspective offers panoramic views of the rainforest and the Madre de Dios River. From this vantage point, you’ll spot birds like toucans, macaws, and other vibrant species.
After a satisfying breakfast, you’ll pack up and begin your return journey. A boat will take you back to Puerto Maldonado, where you’ll be transferred to the airport or bus station, marking the end of your Amazon adventure.
